NiziU, JYP Entertainment's Japanese Kpop girl group, has at long last debuted in Korea with their three-song single "Press Play". They first debuted in Japan with "Step and a step" in 2020 after finishing their survival show Nizi Project, and after three years of teasing, they've finally stepped into Korea as well.
A two player debut
Japanese Kpop releases like NiziU's previous ones tend to drop music videos well in advance of their albums, however this time the MV and album come out simultaneously as is standard with Korean releases. The MV for the title track "HEARTRIS" contains a bit of extra fun too as fellow JYPE group Stray Kids' member Felix appears in the video as NiziU's focus of affection. This isn't the first time that members of the groups have appeared in each other's MVs either as NiziU members were in Stray Kids' "God's Menu" while Nizi Project was still being aired.
3RACHA, the Stray Kids subunit, also co-wrote and co-produced the third song on the single "Paradise", adding an additional element of collaboration between the two groups for this project. The track is the Korean version of the title song from NiziU's Japanese single of the same name. Notably, the Japanese version also served as the theme song for the Doraemon 2023 movie.
The schedule ahead
Promotions for the debut look like they'll be following a pattern similar to typical Kpop releases. We already see NiziU scheduled for weekly music shows, fansigns, and Korean variety, so expect a busy promotion cycle in the coming weeks.
